How to Sew a Demented Jester Pattern
In Depth Pattern Guide
This in-depth guide will teach you how to sew your own demented jester pattern. The pattern pieces are available for free download at the end of this post.
Materials You'll Need:
- 1 yard of fabric (any type will do, but a heavier fabric will make a sturdier jester)
- 1/2 yard of contrasting fabric for the collar and cuffs
- 1/4 yard of fabric for the hat
- 1/4 yard of fabric for the bells
- 1 package of bias tape
- 1 package of rickrack
- 1 package of jingle bells
- 1 needle and thread
- A sewing machine
- Scissors
Instructions:
1. **Cut out the pattern pieces.** The pattern pieces are available for free download at the end of this post. 2. **Sew the body of the jester.** Start by sewing the two front pieces of the body together at the shoulders. Then, sew the two back pieces of the body together at the shoulders. Next, sew the front and back pieces of the body together at the sides. 3. **Sew the collar of the jester.** Fold the contrasting fabric in half lengthwise and press. Then, sew the two raw edges of the fabric together to create a tube. Turn the tube right side out and press. Insert the collar into the neckline of the jester and sew it in place. 4. **Sew the cuffs of the jester.** Fold the contrasting fabric in half lengthwise and press. Then, sew the two raw edges of the fabric together to create a tube. Turn the tube right side out and press. Insert the cuffs into the sleeves of the jester and sew them in place. 5. **Sew the hat of the jester.** Start by sewing the two side pieces of the hat together at the top. Then, sew the two bottom pieces of the hat together at the bottom. Next, sew the side pieces of the hat to the bottom pieces of the hat. Finally, fold the bottom edge of the hat up and sew it in place to create a brim. 6. **Sew the bells to the hat.** Cut out four circles of fabric for the bells. Fold each circle in half and sew the two raw edges together to create a cone. Turn the cones right side out and press. Insert a jingle bell into each cone and sew the top of the cone closed. Sew the bells to the top of the hat. 7. **Add the finishing touches.** Embellish the jester with bias tape, rickrack, and other decorative items.Tips:
- If you are using a lightweight fabric, you may want to interface the fabric before you sew it. This will help to give the fabric more body and structure.
- If you are having trouble sewing the bias tape on, you can use a bias tape maker. This will help you to create evenly folded bias tape.
- If you are not sure how to sew a particular seam, there are many tutorials available online.
